Car Alarms: Car alarm in 1990 XF Ford panel van, xf ford, ford panel van

Question
After just about every hot day (30 degrees plus); my son's alarm in his "new" 1990 XF Ford panel-van goes off for no apparent reason at some stage in the early hours of the morning...most annoying for neighbors and us! Why is this happening? Is there a remedy? I suggested cooling the car off at night/keeping windows down a bit...no luck!

Answer
Most car alarms do not have issues with temperature.
There might be a truck or motorcycle that will
set it off when the person leaves in the
early morning though. What seems to be
happening is that the alarm has a
shock sensor that detects vibration/impact.

The reason this might have been turned up high
is that this an older panel van, the door triggers
may only cover the 2 front doors. The way to
check this is to unplug the shock sensor,
close all doors, and then open the rear or, the
side door (s) and see if it triggers the system.
If not, then the alarm does not read current drain,
or, detect when the dome light is on or off.
Normal for this situation, and instead of going
the extra step to cover those doors through door
pins connected to the 2 front doors,
so that the dome light turns on when
they open too, they simply set up the
shock sensor way too high to cover
those doors as well.

Most anything that has a "runble" to it, that is
close to his truck, would trigger it.
Even a cat jumping
on the hood can do it.

I suggest getting in to the underdash area,
locate the alarm brain box, and
find the shock sensor. Either turn it down,
off or, unplug it completely.

Then see if the alarm is anymore trouble. If
not, have your son put in door pins on the rear
and side, tie it into the 2 front door pins, and
that will correct the situation. Complex sounding
I know, but it it's not really. And it will stop
the falsing.

Let me know what you find.
