Car Alarms: Follow up to: Disabling 93 Maxima Alarm, key pads, electrial

Question
Thanks for the information.  However, I'm pretty dumb when it comes to electrical stuff so I have a follow up question.  You said that we should "splice the wire and put it to ground."  Does that mean simply cut it and wrap both ends in electrical tape?  Or do you mean disconnect something and attached it to something metal on the car to ground it?

Also, are there any special precautions we should take before we start such as disconnecting the battery or making sure the key is in the ignition or anything like that?  I guess after having it go off on us so much I'm paranoid about cutting a wire and suddenly the horn starts honking, the lights start flashing and the whole electrial system goes haywire! :-)

Thanks again.

Question -
My son has a 93 Maxima GXE.  They keypads on the doors which operate the door locks no longer work consistently.  That was no real problem because he could just operate it with the key.  However, a while back the alarm began to go off occasionally when he tried to unlock and/or start it.  At first, he could put the key back in the driver's door and disarm it.  After a few months, that no longer worked but he could put the key in the passenger door and disarm it.  Now, that no longer works and he has to put the key in the trunk to disarm it.  In essence, he is running out of places to put the key! :-)

The car has pretty high miles so we really can't justify the cost of new key pads and are concerned about the potential hourly labor cost of having a repair shop hunt and search for the problem. Therefore, we were wondering if there was a way that we can simply disable the alarm and simply retain the basic door lock system?

Thanks for your help.

The factory alarm in this car is a pain in he butt.
Has been for people since they came out with it.

In all those points is a wire that needs to be grounded
to stop it from blarring. This is what you have
been doing momentarrily when turning
the key in the door lock to the left,
then to the right. At this point the system
is experiencing a failure cascade or, age fatigue.
This happens. Either way, let's disarm it.

Ok, to permanantly disable it,
locate the light.green/black/with silver dots,
at the anti-theft module, located to left of
steering column under the dash.
It says Theft Warning on module.

Once you find it, splice into it, and put it to ground.
That will do it. The locking system should be fine.
I do suggest however, that you replace the factory
fob system, and add on a basic keyless system for
the convenience, or, a nice alarm w. keyless,
for the security aspects.
This car is fairly easy to steel if the
factory system is not working. But that's on you.
I would do that however, if it were mine.

Good luck with it.

Nope don't overthing it. Find the factory disarm
wire, spice the same guage wire to it,
(strip off a bit of wire covering) and once
done, put the other end of the wire to the car
body using an eyelet connector and a screw.
This is what I mean by grounding the wire.

No need to disconect the battery. you are simply
putting a ground to this wire that gets grounded
when you turn the key anyway. Doing it this
way, it's done permanantly.
