Car Alarms: Viper 791XV problem, valet mode, chevy blazer

Question
Hi,
I had installed a viper 791XV alarm myself in a 1995 Chevy Blazer. The alarm and all remote start functions have worked fine for the past 8 months. within the last few days, however, the alarm has had a short range. Yesterday, the system was armed. Later I attemted to disarm, but the unit would not respond to the transmitter. So, I performed a manual disarm. The system disarmed, but unit will still not respond to transmitter.(transmitter beeps 3 times) And so now, I cant arm, disarm, or remote start. The only thing it will do is go into  manual valet mode.

1)I have checked all fuses, plug connections, and wire connections(including antenna connection) and they are all good.

2). I have tried my extra LCD transmitter. still no luck. Also tried to reteach transmitters(open door, key on, press valet, press and hold valet, press transmitter lock button while still holding valet, then release valet switch)The unit will not even go into transmitter learn mode... No led flash or alarm sound).

3) Tried resetting the system by disconnecting battery for 20 min. no luck there.

The transmitter does seem to receive commands from unit, because if I enter manual valet mode(turn key on, then off, then press valet switch) then repeat this sequence to exit valet mode the transmitter will beep twice and flash Disarm. Other than this the transmitter will not do anything.

I have performed shutdown diagnostics a few times and here were the results:
1).The status led blinked 6 times indicating a - shutdown on the hood pin switch wire(grey) or a + shutdown on the brake switch wire(brown)
I have tested the two wires and they are working properly.

2). The status led now blinked 5 times (short pause) and then another 2 times. I dont know what this code means because it's not listed in the book.

I believe I have tried everything I can. Is the control module junk.
I tried to call directed, but they don't offer consumer help.

Thanks for your time,
Chris

Answer
Figures on the support end of things.
DEI is notorious for this kind of crap.

Yes they will sell you the product, but
unless you are willing to bend over and
grab your ankles, you are SOL at directed
central offices.

Frosts my cookies everytime I hear this story!

And I have nothing nice to say on it.
Or even helpfull hints
on this one because I don't support they're sales
or they're abandoned customer base. Don't
like they're products.

It appears as if you did everything by the book.
If you installed it yourself however, you have
breached the Cardinal rule there. If a qualified
DEI tech did not do the work, there is NO warranty,
and no assistance.

Try my forum at www.installsupport.com and put this
question there before you scrap it. It could be
simple that you are overlooking.

I have a much better system you can install
with a decent track record, and actuall "end user"
support services,
but let's see if you can salvadge this one first,
if you still want it. You can also write to
my friend Chris at ctursi@audiovox.com . He
used to be a Viper tech, and might have some insight
on this system. Good guy. Tell him I sent you.

Good luck to you, and if
you get too much of a run around on this,
and or, you want to trade up to a nicer
piece with support after the sale, let me know.
