Question -
How do I disable the alarm on a 1997 Ford Explorer Sport.  I'm not sure if it's factory installed or after factory. Thanks in advance for your response.
Answer -
Tell me what you are experiencing.
Headlights or, parking lights flashing?
is there starterkill on it? Siren or,
car horn being honked?

Let me know then I can help more.

I beleive its solely a siren.  I have the remote that works but don't like the fact that the alarm arms a few seconds after closing the door.

Answer
This is an aftermarket alarm that is
in passive mode, or in effect, waits
for the last door to close, a 30 second
timer is engaged and then locks and arms the
vehicle. I don't know exactly what it is or does,
but let's see if we can disable it for now...

Ok, try this.
Put the key in the ignition, and turn forward
all the way just before cranking. Then within
5 seconds, press and hold in the valet/overide
button, found under the dash area,
until the installed LED (the blinking light)
in your dash area goes on solid, and the siren chirps once.
(Your valet switch might be the toggle (on/off) type.
in this case, key on, flip switch in opposite direction,
key off.)

This should reset the alarm.

Just Repeat these steps to place it
back to usable armed mode.

That should do it.
If you want to remove it at this point,
take it to your neighborhood installer
for this, or buy the wiring chart for
the vehicle, and reverse engineer it wire
by wire, until it's safely removed.

If it does not work out this way, you will have
to replace the system with one you know how
to operate and what to expect.

Let me know what happens.
