Car Alarms: Locatio of aftermarket keyless entry box?, keyless entry system, carpet on the floor

Question
Hi,
About 4 years ago, I had an aftermarket Avital keyless entry system installed by a local alarm dealer in my 1999 Camry. It provides just the basic door opening function.

We have now lost both remotes for the device and are down to using the key. I am considering buying another identical Avital system online and just replacing the installed unit...so that no running of wires etc. is needed.
I have a couple of questions:

a) Is this a workable idea?
b) If the new unit I buy is slightly different from the one installed, can I still expect to be able to make it work with the existing wiring?
c) Most Important!..what's the most likely location for the current unit? I don't seem to see it under the seat...is it likely to be under the carpet on the floor?

Thanks in advance...as you can tell..I haven't done this before but I believe I am reasonably handy!

Answer
a) Is this a workable idea?<<<No because thes
alarms were made as a series, and the harnesses
will not be the same.

b) If the new unit I buy is slightly different from the one installed, can I still expect to be able to make it work with the existing wiring? <<<<No again sorry,
It was made prior to directed
electronics buying out Avital.
The new wiring will not apply to your
box directly.

c) Most Important!..what's the most likely location for the current unit? I don't seem to see it under the seat...is it likely to be under the carpet on the floor?? <<<<no this is located up under the dash board. Have a look at my
tutourial site www.MRINSTALL.com and see how an
aftermarket alarm/keyless/remote starter would
normally be installed, and you'll get a better feel
for this kind of thing. Also, this is a very easy
car to work with. I can sell you a system that will
do quite a bit, at a reasonable price, and guide you
through the installation easilly.

Let me know if you'd like to know the options
here.

Thanks in advance...as you can tell..I haven't done this before but I believe I am reasonably handy!

This is not hard to do.
Let me know if you want tme to help further
in you selection of your new system.

Have a good one.
