Car Alarms: How is this alarm?, miata owner, gauge installation

Question
Hello again.

Thank you for the prompt reply.  If I purchase the Galaxy 5000 RS manual, is it possible to purchase a 2-way remote later if I plan to keep it?  How much would an extra remote be?  Could I use a different remote?

The reason I ask is a purely superficial one.  I like the alarms that you suggested earlier, but I do not like their specific LCD remotes.  I do not like the fact that it has a picture of a car on the remote, especially when it is not a picture of my car.  I know that it is a silly concern, but it will help me in making a decision.

Thank you for your help.

Hello.

I am buying a car alarm for my 94 Mazda Miata.  I really would like one that is a 2-way remote alarm with a remote starter, starter kill, power door lock control, hood and trunk sensors, anti-car jacking feature, and possibly a motion sensor because of the fact that it is a convertible.  To top it off, I would like one that has an LCD remote, but I do not need one.

The thing that makes it difficult to find one to purchase is the price.  I do not want to pay more than $100 to $150.  To top it off, I plan on installing it myself.  I have done automotive work ranging from engine rebuilds and body work to stereo installation and aftermarket gauge installation.

I am just lost with all of the possibilities and I recently found one on Ebay that seems promising.  It is called the Nitro BMW 2-way pager LCD remote with remote start and everything I stated above.

I just need some advice.  Is this a good option, and are there some other options that are really good?  Is it feasible for me to install it myself?  I have also heard that the effectiveness of an alarm is 90% in the actual installation, is this true?

Thank you for any advice that you can offer.

Sincerely,
An interested Miata owner.

Hmmm, nice vehicle, but yes it
does need a decent system to
protect/enhance it.

The Nitro system you are talking about
is a pacific rim knock off system, and
is being dumped on the market.
Flimsey remotes, cheesy instructions,
and may or may not meet the installation
needs you bought it for. If you get
a year out of the remotes, I would be surprised.
Plus, once you bought it, wanna bet that the
seller either says NO SUPPORT avaialable,
or sales are final? Check the seller out prior
to purchase, and ask questions specific to
this car.

No, I would steer clear of this one unless
the company stands behind it for the lifetime
of the vehicle it's installed in.

You can install this yourself with your
expertise, but again, you get what you pay
for. The old say "You go cheap, you get cheap"
would apply for most Ebay liquidators. All they do
is sell the systems. Will they be there to help
install or support it? Doubtfull. Caviat Emptor!

I have a couple of solid suggestions
that would do very well for interfacing
properly to this specific vehicle.

My WIREWERXS.com site will
provide The notes on this vehicle for FREE
and will send them along with a suggested
list of relays, and accessories to do the
job correclty the first time, if you decide
to purchase the system here.

Now let's see...

First off, if the Miata is a standard transmission,
you would need a remote starter that has that option.
You can not and should not install a non manual
transmission unit a vehilce that requires a
clutch bypass. Dangerous.

If you want the whole package with paging,
alarm and remote start/car alarm/keyless entry,
the Galaxy 5000 RSW 2WAY combo or, the
Ultrastart 4255tl 2 way combo
remote start/car alarm/keyless systems
are my first choices on this one.
(see at www.CARALARMz.com 169. for auto trans.
199.95 for manual trans. for either currently!)

You may like the Ultrastart 4500
(a bit higher priced @ 199.95-219.00)
or, the Commando 870s (179.-199.95),
but for this specific
project, I am leaning towards the first
2 and in that order. Have a look at the
features for these on CARALARMZ.com
to compare. With a manual transmission/remote starter,
car alarm, and no 2 way paging, the Galaxy 5000 rsw
manual at 109.00 is my choice for this car.

Keep in mind that the best thing here
in my opinion is the comfort of
the 2 way pager.
This way you know it's YOUR car.
Not some random siren going off outside,
but YOURS!

Either way you would
still get starter kill, flashing lights,
2 remotes, domelight monitoring, 6 tone siren,
2 stage impact sensor and more.
You can also add an interior/exterior microwave
sensor to detect movement for 36.00.

This completes the
overall security needs I would think.

Again, a bit out of budget for the correct system, and
the bargain one, well is totally up to you.

My advice, get the one that has the aftersale
support. You are correct in saying that
the installation/support is 90%. If installed wrong
in the first place, you will have problems
in the future.

Answer
No sorry, if you want paging, you will need
to get the unit that has the software for paging.
The 5000RS Manual can not be upgraded to
a paging remote.

And no, these are frequency locked and are
soley dependent on the alarms & remotes made
by the manufacturer.

Unfortunately you just seem
to be shopping which is fine, but please,
if you have further questions, write to me
at INSTALLSUPPORT@AOL.COM directly from

Good luck with your choices.
I fear you probably just picked
my brain for info, and probably intend to purchase elsewhere,
or for a different system entirely.
I have spent alot of time helping with
your decision,as a volunteer here at
ALLEXPERTS.com so I do hope your purchase
will be here.

In any event, this site is to help out
