Hello I recently bought a 1993 ford probe GT. It came with one key with a panic button and a lock and unlock button. We thought the batteries were dead since the lock/unlock feature wasnt working so- I replaced em. I also got a copy of the key made which I used - but then same day had a problem with car alarm...I believe it may have happened when I originallyu took the batteries out of the key alram to get them replaced and then put the key in lock without batteries.  Ever since then the thing seems to go off randomly and when it does, it kilsl the engine and wont seem to shut off for at least fifteen minutes.

Hi and again, you floored with your kindness. ok the back of the key sais transmitter 1, It is made my TRW, Inc. which  looked up and it appears to be speciifcally made for Ford or by Ford, the number is 3165189 there is additionally DOC: 1470 K763 on the back of the key as well as an FCC ID number. Meanwhile I cant wait to try your suggestion. I love learning how to play Ms fix it when I can. Thanks so much, Lee

Answer
Ohhhh sorry to bring bad news but
that remote is no longer sold or,
supplied from Ford. It was the first year they
actually supplied the TRW system for the Probe GT,
but there are no replacements available.

However,

There are ways to disarm permanantly.
The simplest & most effective of which
is to locate the brown/yellow wire in the drivers
side door kick panel area. You will find
a wire pack there that contains this wire,
then you would splice into it, add a simular
guage wire to it, then ground the spliced wire to
the body of the car. That will disable the
alarm part of the system, but should still
allow the remote (if functioning)
to do the keyless entry functions.

Now SHOULD you rely on this system, no way!
Since we have established that is malfunctioning
presently, I would opt to get a basic aftermarket
system, disable the TRW one for good, so the starter
will not be interupted ever again by it, and replace
the desired functions with a new control system.

I can get you squared away with a decent one for
50.00 or so. This would give you a siren, 2 new
remotes, keyless entry and a 2 stage impact sensor.
I can also throw in a starter kill relay for free
if you want to get that feature back. Plus I
can supply the wiring data needed to DO IT YOURSELF!
(I am a true believer or woman who do they're own
work under the dash. Most do better then the guys I
help online!)

Let me know and we'll work on it together, but I
would really like you to disable it for now by
grounding that wire. That way, you won't be
stranded again.  Either way you go, I am glad
that I restored your faith in humanity.
Aint it great when you find help in a storm?
No one was around when I was cutting my teeth
in this business, so I am now providing it to
those folks who need it. Keeps me busy and happy.
It's a karma thing.

Be well.
