Car Alarms: Remote starter, gmc sierra, brain box

Question
I installed a remote start on a 1997 gmc sierra pickup and when i press the button nothing happens. I've checked my wiring and everything seems to be fine. This unit also drains the battery for some reason. I believe the 97 didn't have any kind of passlock on it or does it?

Answer
Sorry but this is a bit too vague.
Without my being there to inspect it,
I am just guessing. So here goes...

Depending on the
remote starter you have, you may need to go
through a primer procedure to get it to
function. Including tach learning etc...

On the "draining the battery" issue.
That would be exceedingly difficult to do
with remote start equipment. It's more likey
a bad relay or diode.

Best suggestion is if you are 100% certain
you followed the writen material supplied
with the rem starter, that you contact the tech
support office for the product for trouble
shooting assistance. Best to get
first hand knowledge on this sort of stuff.

One thing though is the truck does not
have the PASSLOCK II system in it.
You are correct that that did not start
until 1998, so you can discount this as
an issue here I think.

I would however, disconnect the brain box
until you get that input from the manufacturer.
This would cut the remote starter out of the
equation and then if still draining power,
you can track down why.

One question though? Did you install a
starter disable relay with this? Or maybe
door locks using relays? That could be the trouble.
Remove it, (or the lock/unlock relays) then
try again. But also make sure all the remote start procedures,
including closing all doors etc...
are followed to decrease the chances of
trouble, misconnected wiring, wrong wiring,
missed procedure etc...

Good hunting and
let me know how it goes.
