Car Alarms: Ford factory car alarms, ford bronco, 1989 ford bronco

Question
I recently purchased an 1989 ford bronco (full size) 4x4. The person that I bought it from apparently lost the remote on/off switch for the factory alarm.
The previous owner installed an alternate ignition switch and unhooked the speaker to the alarm system. In doing this, he was able to start the vehicle but, he had to wire the new ignition to the factory alarm. I assume because the alarm has a feature to disable the ignition.
He was able to start the vehicle but, the alarm is constantly on (just no sound hooked to it) and in turn it was constantly draining the battery.
My question is what do i need to do to fix this problem? Do I need to purchase a new wiring harness and start from scratch?

Answer
Here's the problem with this scenerio.
This truck does not have a factory alarm. This
means he spent lots of money to replace something
that was not necessary to replace. It does
however have an aftermarket alarm in it causing
the starter kill relay located on the starter wire
under the dash on the key switch wiring harness,
to engage when the alarm is going off.

Let's take this to the logical first step, remove
the alarm system first, then the relay from the
starter wire (red/blue) and reattatch the
starter wire to original condition.

Once this is accomplished, you will get back to
Fords original operations. However, keep in
mind the keyless functions that the alarm
controled if installed will stop, as well as
any theft protection it used to provide.

I strongly suggest replacement, as opposed to
removal only since this truck is VERY easy to steel.

I hope I helped some.
Good luck with it.
