Car Alarms: 1998 Subaru Outback Limited Alarm Disengage, subaru outback, correct sequence

Question
My Outback's alarm has been going off this morning and I don't have a remote entry clicker. Even with the doors unlocked the alarm sounds. I am able to start the car however.  How can I disarm/disengage the alarm system with only my key?

The manual doesn't go into detail about the alarm system and have read online "When you can't use a remote to turn off the system: open the door with a key or try to start the car and the horn will start to honk.  Turn the key on-off  3 times within 5 seconds and the alarm will go off and you can start the car. " but want to make sure that is the correct action.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Answer
I am not certain that is the correct sequence either.
I can tell you however,
how to disengage it permanantly,
or momentarilly.

This will solve it either way.

Find the FACTRY ALARM DISARM
(green/lt. blue|-|)
wire in drivers kick panel.

Remove the plastic panel cover,
and ground this wire to the chassis
(permanantly) or, use the factory bypass
(-) output wire on an aftermarket alarm,
disarming the factory alarm at the same
time as the aftermarket system disarms
itself.

A little work will do the job
either way.

Then you will not have to deal
with it again.

Let me know how it goes for you.
