Car Alarms: car alarm problem, dash area, rover 218

Question
Hi,

I have a Rover 218 TD (1995).  Recently I took the battery out to charge it up and now when I reconnect it the alarm goes off, every time.  I've tried different options, e.g. doing it with the doors locked and unlocked but nothing seems to work.

The manual supplied with the car is not very clear (or I'm being stupid...) but all help gratefully received.

All the best,

John

Answer
It sounds like the alarm is aftermarket. Do the remotes operate once you re-power the system? If not you will
need to contact the maker of the system to see how
to re program. If no remotes available, look for the
valet overide switch under the dash area, turn the ignition key to the ON position, then press and hold the Valet switch
until the little LED light that was installed in the dash, comes on and stays on solid. This is overide. You would
repeat the steps to get out of valet, and back into
armed mode.

If none of this is available, and it is indeed
a factory system that you are dealing with,
you will then need to go into RR
and have them put the computer diagnostic system
on your vehicle to shut it down and reset.

Good luck with it.
