Car Stereos: cuts in and out, internal amplifier, rear speakers

Question
QUESTION: my panasonic reciever  cq-c1333u i took out of one car and installed in my trans am , it works fine from 1  to 24 but if i turn it up any higher the sound cuts in and out . what did i do wrong . thanks

ANSWER: Hi Ron,

It sounds like you have a blown speaker or shorted connection in the car.  When you turn the volume up, the impedance across the circuit goes down, and the internal amplifier in the deck is trying to protect itself.

QUESTION: 1986 trans amI

Answer
Hi Ron,

Unfortunately, finding information on vehicles that old is difficult.  It appears there's a chance your car features 2ohm speakers.  If that's the case, you're going to need new speakers to use them at any reasonable volume.  I would get a multimeter and test the leads going to the speakers.  If it's less than 4, then you're going to need new speakers, as the deck will stop powering them to protect itself.
