Chevrolet Repair: surging, chevy lumina, lumina car


Question
I have a chevy lumina car 3.1L. The car runs great untill you slow down to a stop.When the engine drops to a idle it starts to surge. idon't get any fault codes. Could you give me some idea what to check. would the idle air control valve cause this problem. And if so could you explain to me how i works.

Hi Mike, The first thing to do in this one is to clean the throttle plate and bore. Use a old tooth brush with carb cleaner to clean these parts. After you do that disconnect the battery for a minute. Now after you connect the battery start the engine and the put it in gear and run at idle for 10 minutes. Turn off engine after 10 min then restart and run in gear again for 5 min. This will relearn the idle and computer.
