Car Stereos: double din, did I fry it?, pink wire, cheap radio

Question
Okay so I bought a used touch screen/bluetooth double din no name brand (I'm sure it's a cheap generic) car stereo for my 2003 Ford Focus ZX5 to replace my factory unit. And the guy swore up and down that it worked. Well I hooked it up after I bought a Scoush wire harness. And at first the sound worked okay and I could hear a dvd playing but the picture was all white screen. No change i the screen the whole time. So I unplugged it and figured I had a wire messed up or something. So I then noticed a green wire that was not hooked up because on the diagram on top of the radio it didn't even list that wire. Also a pink wire that was labeled power control that I didn't hook up. Well I think after I hooked it up again I tried touching the green wire to the red wire for a few seconds and moving wires around. I guess my question is would that fry the unit? Even if it was quick? Now I checked all the wires and found that the green wire was for brake control and should not be hooked up or to just ground it. But the pink wire I'm not sure about? Wire that to the red power wire? Guess what I'm asking is could I fry the radio even if it was only checked for a split second? And if I did fry it could it be fixed at say a radio shop or would that be really a dumb idea for a cheap radio? Thanks in advance....

Answer
Hi Mark,

Unfortunately, Ford likes to change their stereo colours seemingly daily, so I'm not sure what's being carried through that pink wire.

If it is in fact carrying power, and it touched a wire on the other deck, yes, it is possible it's fried.  Remember, electricity travels at (almost) the speed of light, so a split second is plenty of time to do damage.

And in today's day and age, typically taking a unit like that in for repair will cost more than it's worth.  It's unfortunately, but it's usually the case.
