Car Stereos: car stereo problems, nissan xtrail, weird coincidence

Question
Hi, I have a nissan Xtrail ST, my car was serviced several months ago and somehow the stereo was disconnected, now the stereo wont work, it shows "ERR" whenever it is turned on, I mentioned this to the person who serviced the car and he says we just need to enter the stereo pin code. I do not have a stereo pin code and have looked throughout all the manuals and documents I have. is there another way to correct this problem.
kind regards, Melissa

Answer
Hi Melissa,

The person who serviced the car is wrong.  ERR means that something is wrong with the unit.  Perhaps if he did some electrical work, he sent a surge somehow and fried something.

It's also possible it's just a weird coincidence.  But I'd be concerned about him trying to blow off an obvious ERROR message as 'needing to enter a PIN.'.

The first thing to try is to pull out the radio fuse, wait about 30 seconds, and put it back.  It's not likely, but it just might make it work again.

If not, you're probably looking at replacement.
