Answer
Hi Jenny,

It sounds like you may have a factory amplifier.  If it's equipped, it's located under the driver's seat.

There's a way to bypass the factory amp and connect the rear speakers directly to the new head unit.  The easier method requires another part.  You can do it without the extra part by cutting and splicing factory wires at the amp.

The amplifier should have two plugs:  one small, one large.  To bypass the amp, pull out the large plug.  Then you'll need to cut pairs of wires in the plug, and splice them together (leave the plug out of the amp).

The wire colors you'll need to cut and splice together are:

Black/red to Pink
Red/Blue to Violet
Black/white to Orange
Blue to Blue/White

To do the same thing without cutting factory wires, visit a local car audio store and purchase a Metra 70-5514 adapter.  This will include a harness that has two ends; one end will fit the large plug at the factory amp.  Cut the other end off the adapter harness, so that you have an end that fits the factory amp plug, with eight wires coming from it.  You'll need to connect these wires together in pairs:

White to green
White/black to green/black
Gray to violet
Gray/black to violet/black

The advantage to using the adapter is that when you're done with the car, you can just remove the adapter plug and reconnect the factory amp.

Hope this helps!
