Car Stereos: Installing new components to a factory radio, chevy silverado, 2004 chevy silverado

Question
I have a 2004 Chevy Silverado 1500 and I am installing a pair of infinity components in the front doors. My original factory speaker set up had a 6.5 woofer and a tweeter seperately. So I have seperate wires (of the same color) for them to plug into. My new speakers have a crossover. Can I connect one set of the wires(the woofer or tweeter wire?) as my in for the crossover and leave the other ones there... or should i just plug them both in together into the crossover?

Answer
Hi Chris,

Unless your Silverado is equipped with a Bose sound system, the woofer and tweeter wires in your door are both connected to the same head unit output.  I'd suggest using the wire pair leading to the woofer as the input for your new crossover.  This will carry a full-range audio signal.  The tweeter wires may have their own in-line crossover, and you wouldn't want that connected in series with your new crossover system.  There's no reason to use both sets of wires.

Hope this helps!
