Car Stereos: LOC w/ bose, chevy blazer zr2, chevy blazer

Question
HI, I have an 02 2 door chevy blazer zr2 with the bose
package, and I'd like to install a couple subs running off
one amp.  How could I wire this up so it would sound decent?
Ive thought about using a line output converter, but some
people say that would bring the sound quality way down. So
any help would be appreciated. I really don't want to rip
out the whole bose system and start new.

Answer
Hi Chris,

Don't worry about the sound quality of a line output converter with a subwoofer and amplifier.  I've installed literally hundreds of such systems, and I can honestly say that you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between a subwoofer running from a line output converter, and one running from a head unit's subwoofer output.

The Bose system makes things a bit tricker, because you need to connect the line output converter between the Bose amplifier and the speakers--you can't make your connections behind the head unit like you could in a non-Bose system.  Your best bet is to find the Bose amplifier, located under the center console storage area.  You can tap the rear speaker wires right at the amplifier location; the wire colors are dark brown and yellow for the left speaker, and dark blue and light blue for the right speaker.  (The darker color is the positive wire for each pair).

If you do decide to upgrade to an after-market head unit, you can still keep the Bose amplifier and speakers working in the system.  You just need an interface adapter to make the new head unit's output work properly with the Bose amplifier inputs.  I'd recommend PAC's ROEM-GM21A kit.

Hope this helps!
