Car Stereos: Boss 745BA car stereo, blown fuse, loose wire

Question
Hello,
Recently my car stereo started going off by itself, I would remove the faceplate, push the reset button in, and it would work fine. It finally went out to where even if I push the reset button, the faceplate gets no power to it so that I can use the radio. Although, once in awhile, if I slam my door hard enough, the radio will flicker on and back off. My question is, could it be a loose wire or maybe a blown fuse and if I pull the radio out, and readjust the wires, will this work?

Answer
Hi Cherie,

It's not a blown fuse; a blown fuse would just not work at all.

If your car door being slammed is making it periodically work, you almost certainly have a loose wire.  Loose wires can be a fire hazard, so I wouldn't recommend just adjusting it.  I would recommend removing the deck, and testing the wires going to it for continuity, and finding the actual bad connection, and then reconnecting it.  Preferably with solder and heat shrink.

If you just adjust the wires, it could work again, but it could heat up and cause a fire.

Good luck,
Justin
