Question
I have a 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 lonestar edition with the infinity system and am hooking up my amp and subs to the stock deck. From what i've read you just get a Line out converter and tie it into your speaker wire (+ and -) but i can't figure out what the stock remote wire to run to the amp is? What color would that wire be?

Answer
Hi Reid,

Sorry about the delay in answering your question.

You're not going to find a true "remote" wire in the factory radio harness of a 2008 Ram.  The stock system in this truck doesn't use a remote output to activate the factory amplifier; instead, the amp is controlled through the vehicle's data bus system.  (For similar reasons, you won't be able to connect your line output converter to speaker wiring in the radio harness; you'll need to tap the speaker wires between the factory amplifier and the speakers, and you'll need to be sure you pick a speaker wire that's carrying bass signals.  For example, if you're hooking up a subwoofer amp, then it won't do you much good to connect your line output converter to the speaker wire running to the center dash speaker or the tweeters).

Your best bet is to connect to the feed wire for the key-switched 12V power outlet.  Most Dodge trucks have at least two accessory power outlets; one carries constant power, while the other is key-switched.  The key-switched power wire will make a good remote wire connection, as it stays on after the vehicle is shut off until a door is opened--just like the factory radio.

Hope this helps!
