Car Stereos: Line out converter, 2001 olds aurora, two subs

Question
I used a line out converter to hook an amp and subs to a stock stereo in a 2001 Olds Aurora.  Everything works but the subs are barely putting out any noise.  Gains are up and levels are set up for testing but music / bass is extremely quiet.  Any suggestions?

Answer
Hi Chris,

I'm guessing that you connected your line output converter to the rear speaker wires in the trunk.  Try this:  adjust the balance all the way to the left or the right.  Does the bass get louder when your audio is balanced all the way to one side?  If so, you probably mixed up the positive and negative connections on one channel when you connected the converter.  Double-check these wires.

This can also happen at the connections between the subwoofers and the amplifier--if the two subs are connected to the amplifier in opposite polarity, the result will be much lower volume levels.  The way to test this is to disconnect one of the two subs, and see if the bass is louder with only one sub playing.  If it is, then re-connect the second sub, but reverse the positive and negative connections.

Hope this helps!
