Car Stereos: rca outs, rca inputs, pioneer head unit

Question
i just purchased a pioneer head unit and a pyramid equlizer. the HU only has rear rca outs and the eq has rca ins , will i get both front and rear signal from the HU or do i need to buy something to use the speaker wires from the HU and switch them to rca?

Answer
Hi Johnny,

Sorry about the long delay in answering your question.  It's hard to give you an answer without knowing more about the equalizer; not every EQ is alike.  However, typically an EQ uses only one set of RCA inputs, and will provide separate front and rear (and often, sub) outputs.  In this case, you'd just connect the rear outputs from the head unit to the EQ inputs, then you'd use the fader control built into the equalizer instead of the head unit's fader control.

To give you a more complete answer, I'd need to know the model number of the equalizer, along with more information about amplifiers in your system--are the EQ's outputs running to a 4-channel amp to drive your speakers, or are you running some speakers from an amp and others from a head unit?

Hope this helps!
