Car Stereos: Alpine CDE-103BT, alpine head unit, chrysler intrepid

Question
Hi.  I just bought an Alpine CDE-103BT unit to replace the stock stereo in my
2004 Chrysler Intrepid SXT.  The radio works great, but the CD and Aux will
not play sound.  The CD recognizes the disk (song names appear), but no
sound plays.  Same with the ipod (Aux).  I bought the wiring harness adaptor
also (to make things easier).  There were 3 wires that weren't colour
matched...  On the stereo side, there was a pink with black stripe, and a blue
with white stripe.  On the factory side, there was a brown (all three had no
match on the other side).  I assume this is my problem.   From what I read on
this and other sites, I assume I would connect the brown wire from the
adaptor to the blue/white wire from the Alpine harness.  Is this right?  Help
please!  Thank-you!

Answer
Hi Bill,

You're on the right track, but not quite correct in the details.  In fact, the blue wire in the adapter harness needs to be connected to the blue/white wire from the Alpine head unit.  The brown wire in the adapter harness should not be connected to anything, nor should the blue or pink/black wire in the Alpine plug.  This is something of a design defect in the adapter harness: the blue wire is used to activate a factory amplifier, so it really should have been blue/white.

Hope this helps!
