Car Stereos: Sirius Radio Avalon 2001, top of the line models, alpine radios

Question
Scott,  Wanted to know your opinion of the best system to use in a 2001 Toyota Avalon.  I want an in dash system, navigation is not necessary.  Do you recommend changing the head unit or utilizing the existing head unit?
Thanks for your help.

Answer
Dan,  Changing out a factory headunit should be solely based on whether the unit is broken ,or if there are features not present on the factory unit.  Then, it should be replaced.  It shouldn't be a question of sound quality, because most factory radios are made by the industries best manufacturers ( such as Bose, Infinity, Alpine, etc).  If you do want a new unit with better features than the factory radio, I would only shop the top-of-the-line models of any brand.  I recommend Alpine, Kenwood, and Eclipse over others.  However, Alpine radios all sound better than most other brands.  If you have limited funds and cannot afford top-of-the-line models, All Alpine models sound good (even the cheapest model).  Hope this helps, Scott
