Car Stereos: Broken auxiliary input, auxiliary input adapter, 2007 nissan altima

Question
I have a 2007 Nissan Altima with the Bose sound system.  The auxiliary input is
damaged, and I am no longer able to insert an auxiliary cable.  When initially
noticed, I checked the cable, and no parts have broken off, so I believe that
there is a possibility that the internal part of the jack is broken.  Is this fixable on
a factory stereo, or is it worth the hassle?

Answer
Hi Mike,

Sorry about the delay in answering your question.

Unfortunately, I'm an installer, not a service technician, so I can't give you a very good idea of what it will take to repair your head unit.  The fact that the jack is built into the head unit's faceplate, rather than using a separate input module, makes things much more difficult (and potentially expensive).

A few options:

You might want to contact the folks at http://www.carstereohelp.com .  This company specializes in OEM radio repair.  Your particular radio and problem isn't listed on their web site, so I'd contact them directly.  You'd need to remove the radio and ship it to them for repair, so you'd have to be without a radio (and have your dash disassembled) for a time if you decide to use their services.

You can find used replacement OEM head units online, especially on eBay.

Another possibility is an auxiliary input adapter, which would let you connect an auxiliary source through an interface that's connected to the rear of the head unit.  One model that appears to work with your radio would be PAC Audio's aPAC-NIS2.  Instead of using the front jack through the Aux button, you'd select the auxiliary source as if it were a satellite radio band. The sound quality should be comparable. The adapter should work with your stock radio if you have a "CAT" label printed near the "seek" buttons on the factory radio.  I suspect this type of adapter would probably be the least expensive way around your problem.  Here's a link:

Hope this helps!
