Car Stereos: LOC on a 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe, hyundai santa fe, alternator whine

Question
I was told by Crutchfield that I need a PAC 4 for installing an aftermarket stereo in a 2004 Santa Fe.  But I've read HORRIBLE reviews about this product, i.e., flimsy, bulky, alternator whine, low power output, etc.  Is there an alternate way to wire without it and still be able to engage the factory amp?  If not, is there any other better product out there?  Or is it better to just buy another amp altogether?

Answer
Hi Dan,

You have plenty of options here.  If you don't want to buy the PAC, Scosche makes a product just like it (SLC4), as do other companies.  Just google around for 'line out converter'.

Buying another amp is also an option, but it would be a fair bit of work to get it installed since you'd either have to somehow mount it where the old amp is, or run new wire throughout the car.

You could also bypass it, but that's a fair bit of work, too.
