Car Stereos: AFTERMARKETAMP,S, lexus gs300, factory radios

Question
I WOULD LIKE TO ADD A 1000 WATT AFTERMARKET AMP AND A 12 IN SUB TO MY FACTORY 94 LEXUS GS300 RADIO. IS THIS POSSIBLE? I KNOW LEXUS HAS A STRANGE STERIO SET UP.

Answer
Hi Abner,

There's nothing about the factory stereo in a GS300 that would make it more difficult to add an after-market amplifier and subwoofer.  The stock radio will not have RCA outputs for connecting to an amp; few factory radios do, but you can fix that with a device called a line output converter.  In your car, there may be a factory amplifier located in the trunk.  This would actually make the job a bit easier, because the line output converter could be installed at the factory amplifier, rather than behind the stock radio.

In other words, you should be able to install an after-market sub and amp to your stock system without too much difficulty.

Hope this helps!
