Car Stereos: Mazda RX8 Bosch C.D player, mazda rx8, pot hole

Question
C.Ds stuck. Dealer took unit out of dash and got them out and showed me that when loading the C.D the center hole does not lone up with the pillar and will not fall into place. He said he could not fix it. Any suggestions?

Answer
A few things could be wrong here. I'm sure there are more, but these are the things that come to mind and may not necessarily apply to your head unit.

1. Input motor limits are off. This type of problem requires calibration by a skilled electrician. The motor loads a CD similar to a window actuator. The laser senses a CD and the motor activates. The motor sees a "load" or impedance rise until the CD is in completely and the resistance spikes at the limit. These types of limits will sometimes change as the integrity of the unit degrades over time. And since the limit is off, the first action would not complete causing cycle of operation for "eject" not to take place or not work properly.

2. Reciept sentinel is dysfunctional. This is only a theory based on other head units I've dealt with. There is an internal switch that lets the unit know a CD is loaded. If the switch has shorted or stopped working, the CD may or may not play, but the motor would never eject since "nothing's there". This isn't likely though.

3. Tray housing or unit chassis is bent. If the unit had been removed over and over, the unit was dropped or not mounted properly hitting a deep pot hole, or exposed to extreme temperatures for years then the chassis may be in a degraded state. The CD would be loaded until it hangs up causing it not to fall into place and ultimately get stuck since the motor would see a constant load and not eject.

Honestly, things like these would require calibration or component level replacement which is not anything I or dealerships can do. It will either have to be sent out for repair or you will have to buy an aftermarket (or replacement) head unit. Sorry I can't help more.

Best of luck! If you need any more info, let me know. I can do my best to get you what you need.
