Car Stereos: Custom holding for aftermarket stereo in Cadillac, cadillac eldorado, radio area

Question
I have a 1995 Cadillac Eldorado. I am looking to put in an aftermarket "deck", or faceplate in place of the factory Radio/CD player. My current speakers are good-- so I won't need to install those. However, I have heard that I will need a special "installation kit", as the shape of the radio area will not fit most decks.
What exactly does this mean?
Is it easy to install? (for an average skilled installer)
How does it look?

Thank you for your time,
Niki

Answer
Hi Niki.

found a pic for ya :)

see that rectangular hole?. thats where the radio goes, the rest its to cover the gap, that the aftermarket radio is gonna leave.

single dins (regular aftermarket radios) are usually 2 inches tall thats why you need a kit for it to be able to hold the radio.

the radio your going to purchase should have a "cage" which is a rectangular plate that slides back and forth on the radio.

take it off the radio, place it inside the rectangular hole on the installation kit bend the little metallic tabs on the "cage", this is to prevent the radio from moving,

if its a multi kit you will have to assemble just follow the instructions on how to. i would stick to a specific kit that way you wont have to assemble the kit (which is a hassle if you don't know what you are doing).

if installed correctly should look like its made to be there.

if you have any question as far as the wiring or anything else please let me know.

Cheers,

Ed.
