Car Stereos: 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix, pontiac grand prix, car plugs

Question
I just got an XD1222 I want to install myself (never done this before and all my friends have bailed on me). I realize, like an amature, that the connectors don't go together (figured that would happen before I even bought it) but I trusted it would have some form of instructions or I would actually find an online tutorial or something online to help me out (boy I must be stupid). The self-installer kits don't seem to provide any help either. Is there a special connector I can get that would make the two DIFFERENT multi-colored cable sets plug into the new stereos single multi-colored cable sets? If not, what do I do? The last thing I want to try is experimenting with cutting cables. :D

Answer
Do not cut any wires on the car!!  :-)  There are adapters made for installing new radios.  There is a faceplate adapter that lets you mount your aftermarket radio in the stock radio's spot.  Then, there is a wiring harness adapter that has plugs that look like they would plug into the car plugs.  The other end is pigtails.  Each pigtailed wire has a label that tells you what it goes to.  Then, you just connect your radio's pigtailed wires to the wiring harness adapter, so there is a plug on either end of the adapter.  Then, you just plug the car plugs into the car end and the radio plug into the radio end (pretty simple if you have the right gear).  Then, sometimes, you also need an antenna adapter.  If the antenna does not plug snugly into the radio, then there is an adapter plug that goes from the car antenna plug to the radio antenna recepticle.  Then, you have it all.  You can go to crutchfield.com and tell them the model of car and model of radio, and they can sell you everything you need to install the radio.  They also send there own instruction manual, so it is not confusing at all.  You can do it.  P.S.  Do not leave any bare wires before hooking up the power (be sure all wires are connected or taped off).  Hope this helps, Scott
