Car Stereos: Speakers for Ford Ranger, kenwood kfc, pioneer ts

Hi Justin....I have a 2009 Ford Ranger with 4 doors. I am currently using the factory stereo and speakers. It just plain sucks! I want to start with the speakers as that seems to be the best way to go. I know I need either 5x7's or 6x8's. I have a budget of around $150. So here are my questions:

1- Does it make a difference whether I get 5x7's or 6x8's?
2- Should I bother to replace the back speakers? Will it make a   difference?
3- The speakers I have narrowed it down to are the following:
  Kicker DS 680's
  Kenwood KFC-6893PS
  Pioneer- TS-G6842R
  Boss 5x7's (Cheapies @ Wal Mart)

I eventually want to get a new head unit but am not looking at getting an amp. Thanks for any info and help with this.....it is greatly appreciated.

Hi Mike,

Your truck is designed for 6x8s, so I would advise getting 6x8s.  The only downside is they're going to be slightly more expensive because they're not as common.

I would replace all of the speakers, but that's entirely up to you and your budget.  Rear speakers are definitely noticeable.

Finally, as for the speakers you get, that's mostly personal opinion.  I'd choose the Kickers out of that set, but none of those 4 would be in my top 5.
