Car Stereos: car, rca outputs, stock radio

Question
can i hook up a 900 watt amp to a gs300 stock radio

Answer
Hi Sean,

You can install an after-market amplifier with just about any OEM stock radio.  To do this, you'll either need an amplifier that's equipped with "high-level" or "speaker-level" inputs, or you'll need a device called a line output converter.  The factory head unit does not have standard RCA outputs like most after-market head units, so to get the audio signal from the OEM system to the after-market amp, you'll generally have to tap into the factory speaker wiring.  This is really only a problem if you have a vehicle with factory amplifiers attached directly to the speakers, or a factory amp with built-in crossovers so that you can't find a set of speaker wires that carries the full audio range.  In the case of your GS300, you have a factory amp, but it's mounted behind the glove box and produces a full range audio signal on all the output channels.  You shouldn't have much trouble installing an after-market amplifier with this system.

Hope this helps!
