Car Stereos: 2009 Vibe Stereo Harness color codes, pontiac vibe, wire colors

Question
Brian
i am trying to install after market car stereo in my 09 pontiac vibe 1.8L (no navigation just basic factory radio) in Canada. I removed factory radio and i see two connector. My JVC KD-R810 is the HU i want to install. After preparing harness i connect to car connector. The harness i am using is dblink made GM2105 (it may be wrong harness). After i connect HU turn on but i dont get sound. possibly harness GM2105 might not have right pin configuration matching to car harness speaker connections. Could you please help me with car connection wire color codes so i can verify if harness pins are in line with car speaker connection. i dont care if my onstar dont work so i am using no data bus module.
please help i cant find that info anywhere about car connector wire color codes. thx

Answer
Hi Harry,

Here's what I have listed for your speaker wire colors:

Left front (+):  pink
Left front (-):  violet
Right front(+):  light green
Right front(-):  blue
Left rear  (+):  black
Left rear  (-):  yellow
Right rear (+):  red
Right rear (-):  white

I have conflicting information about the correct wire harness, but if the GM2105 fits the plugs properly (and the deck turns on and off) then I think it's the right harness.  I don't know of another harness that's the same size and shape but with a different pin-out.  However, it's possible that the harness was incorrectly pinned from the factory; this is rare, but it happens.

Another thing that can cause your problem is a pinched or shorted speaker wire.  If you have a speaker connection that's not insulated, and is touching the metal head unit chassis or a metal part of the sub-dash, it can cause the head unit's internal amp to shut off, so you don't get sound through any speaker.  In addition to verifying the speaker wire pin positions, I'd inspect the wires behind the head unit and make sure they're all fully insulated, and none are pinched behind the deck chassis.

Hope this helps!

Brian
