Car Stereos: 2000 Silverado audio Installation, rockford fosgate amp, watts rms

Question
I have a new pioneer head unit, a rockford fosgate amp, and an eclipse sub. What cables do I need to buy in order to hook it all up and make everything work properly?

Answer
Hi Alex,

For the head unit installation, you'll need a dash mounting kit, a wire harness adapter, and an antenna adapter.  The Metra part numbers are 99-3002 for the mounting kit, 70-1858 for the wire harness, and 40-GM10 for the antenna adapter.  This is assuming that your Silverado isn't equipped with a factory Bose sound system; if it is, you'll also need a premium sound adapter like a PAC OEM2.

The amplifier installation will require an amp wiring kit.  This includes a power wire with a fuse and fuse holder, a ground wire, a set of RCA audio cables, a length of primary wire for the amplifier remote connection, and often some speaker wire.  Amp kits vary in price depending on the thickness of the power wire.  If your amplifier is rated at 500 watts RMS or lower, then you should pick an 8-gauge wiring kit.  If it's higher power, then a 4-gauge kit may be a better choice.

You'll need a special terminal to connect the power wire to your vehicle's battery, because of the side-terminal battery design used in your truck.  Metra's part number is GBPA1S.

Hope this helps!
