Car Stereos: 2000 Ford Taurus stereo, seatbelt light, rotary knobs

Question
Want to know what year factory stereo/CD players will fit (and work properly) in a 2000 Taurus.  It currently has only AM/FM Cass.  Some sources say 2000 thru 2006 others say differently.

Thanks,
Pat

Answer
Hi Pat,

2000-2006 should be correct.  If you're looking at a unit that combines the radio and climate controls, then the connections should be the same for any Taurus after 2000 (with some exceptions, which I'll detail below).  With the newest Taurus models, the radio is a separate unit from the climate controls, and won't look similar at all.

There are two versions of the radio/climate control module: one uses rotary knobs for the fan, temperature, and mode controls, while the other uses pushbuttons.  The two types are not interchangeable.  Also, in 2004 the Taurus radio integrated a passenger seatbelt indicator light.  These radio units should work in the 2000-03 Taurus, but the seatbelt light will not work properly in these vehicles.

You can buy adapter kits to install after-market single-DIN (7"x2") CD players into these cars.

Hope this helps!
