Car Stereos: radio wont work in truck, check fuse, blown fuses

i took out original deck and tried to put in a kenwood cd.and have wire harness from wal mart thats for the year of my truck.original deck had two plug ins but wire harness didnt fit both plug ins.put back factory deck now it wont work either nor do my windows its a 2001 ford f150

Hi Steven,

It sounds like you have one or more blown fuses in the vehicle fuse box.  Check fuse #1 and #8 in the fuse box under the driver's side dash.  However, this wouldn't explain the power windows not working.  There shouldn't be any wires behind the stock radio, or associated fuses, that would affect the windows.  It might be an unrelated problem.

If the wire harness you bought fit one of the two factory plugs, then it's the right harness.  In your truck, only one of the factory radio plugs is required for an after-market deck.  There aren't any wires in the second plug that are needed to make the new radio work, so manufacturers don't bother making an adapter for it.  It might include wires for an optional factory CD changer, for example.
