Car Stereos: car stereo and 6x9, car stereo, resistance

Question
hi i was wondering if you could help me when ever i connect my 6x9s to  my radio and turn it up about half way it cuts out all my speakers do you know what i could do to stop this thanks.

Answer
Luke, you are probably hooking them up incorrectly causing an unstable resistance in your system.  If you are just splicing off existing speakers, that is probably the case.  To fix the problem, Unhook the negative from the original speaker and connect it to the negative of the 6x9, then run a wire from the negative of the original speaker to the positive of the 6x9.  This will raise the resistance and cause the system to be stable.  You should be able to crank it all the way up.  Hope this helps, Scott
