Car Stereos: Car Stereo Line out converter?, volt power source, line output converter

Question
I have an 2008 Ford Mustang and I wanted to know how to connect the converter to my stock stereo. Also what is the remote signal and where do I install it?

Answer
Hi Javier,

Sorry about the delay in answering this question.

There are a few different possibilities, depending on the type of factory audio system that's present in your Mustang, and on the way you're using the new amplifier.

If your Mustang is equipped with the basic 4-speaker, non-Shaker audio system, or if you're planning to use your new amp to drive a set of full-range speakers, then you can connect the line output converter at the factory speaker wires behind the radio.  You don't need to disconnect the factory speakers to install a line output converter; just cut away some of the insulation from the speaker wire, without cutting the wire, and tap in the wires from the line output converter.

If you're planning to use the new amplifier for a subwoofer system, and your Mustang is equipped with a Shaker audio system, then you have two options:  you can connect the line output converter to the outputs from one of the Shaker amplifiers, or you can wire in RCA plugs to the low-level subwoofer output wires at the back of the head unit.  In this case, a line output converter wouldn't be needed.

In the Shaker 500 system, there are factory amplifiers located high up, above the driver's side and passenger side kick panels.  With a Shaker 1000 system, additional amplifiers are located at the subwoofer enclosure in the trunk.

A remote connection is a 12-volt power source that switches on and off with the factory radio, or with the key switch.  This controls the power of the after-market amplifier, so that the amp doesn't stay on when you're not using the system.  In your Mustang, you'd probably need to find a switched power source at the fuse box, located in the passenger kick panel.

If you'd like to submit a follow-up question with more detail about your Mustang's factory system, and the purpose of your line output converter, I can provide more detail about specific wire colors for your application.

Hope this helps!
