Car Stereos: Protect light flashing, rockford fosgate amp, load impedance

Question
Well I got a t1000 Rockford fosgate amp and it is on portect when it all hooked up but I have checked all wires and thay are all good... I don't know why it will stop doing it if it just got power??

Answer
Hi Mitch,

Sorry I'm so late in answering this question.  Generally, a "protect" light in an amplifier usually means there's a problem with the subwoofer or the sub wiring.  The light can be triggered by a subwoofer load impedance that's wired too low, or by a blown sub with a shorted voice coil.  I'd disconnect the subwoofer from the amplifier's speaker output, and see if you still get the protect light.  If you do, it's likely that there's an internal short in the amplifier, and it will need to be serviced; if not, then I'd look for a defective subwoofer, or a wiring problem with the subs.

Hope this helps!

Brian
