Car Stereos: 96 Toyota Avalon Radio replacement, toyota avalon, proper interface

Question
I am trying to replace my stock Toyota cassette player (AD1700) with a Pioneer deck that I have placed in 3 cars with no problem. Until now....I am hoping you can help with the wiring. I cannot find a diagram that matches my stock stereo.

Answer
Hi Jenny,

If your Avalon is equipped with a 6-speaker or 7-speaker audio system, then it has a factory amplifier. If so, there's a single plug at the back of the head unit.  On the other hand, if it's a 4-speaker system, then there should be two plugs behind the head unit; and all the speaker wires will be in the factory radio plugs.

Either way, your best bet is to get the proper interface harness for the vehicle.  If you have the factory amplified system, look for a Metra 70-8112 adapter harness.  For the non-amplified system, a 70-1761 harness should work.  Either of these should be available at just about any car audio store.

Hope this helps!
