Car Stereos: Radio Install, chevy malibu, blown fuses

Question
Hello, Im trying to install a radio into a 2003 chevy malibu. The problem im running into is that the 12V ignition wire has no power coming out of it when the ignition is turned on. (all websites suggest that the ignition wire is yellow. I have no yellow, only a purple) Any suggestions? Plus the illumination and dimmer wires are free unless i cross them with the ignition wire, so im stuck with no dash lights and tail lights. Thanks for the help!

Answer
First, replace any blown fuses before testing ignition wire.  Do not connect anything to blue wires or dimmer wires.  Keep them all wrapped up.  The wires coming to the radio do not affect taillights or dashlights.  They only allow you to connect your radio to the dashlight control.  Letting you turn the illumination down at night.  I normally do not bother connecting that one.  If you have the ability to test wires for power, you can turn the ignition on and test each leftover wire and use the one that tests positive for power.  Most people use a wire harness adapter that labels each wire for you and makes the connections easy.  I would suggest using one.  Hope this helps, Scott
