Question
I have a 2009 Silverado 1500 and i am putting in a amp all hooked up all i need is to know is where to find the a power wire that has power when the key is on accessory and run.

Answer
Hi Lionel,

Sorry for the delay in answering your question.

In this truck, it's very difficult to find a key-switched power source for an amp turn-on voltage.  There is an accessory wire at the key switch itself; it's either brown or yellow.  However, it's risky to connect an amp remote wire here; the problem is that the key switch power supply is very low current, and if your wire gets shorted, you could blow the ignition switch fuse.  This could result in your truck's engine shutting off without warning.

You can find an ignition power wire at the brake pedal switch; it should be a pink wire.  This will have power in the "run" position, but not in the "accessory" position.

If the truck is equipped with Onstar, there may be a yellow accessory wire in the bundle running up the A-pillar.

The best option in this vehicle is to use a signal-sensing trigger device, which produces a 12-volt output whenever there's a signal present on the speaker wires.  Some line output converters have this feature built-in, or you can buy the device alone; an example is the N-902 found at www.davidnavone.com.

Hope this helps!
