Car Stereos: Kenwoood-possible failed laser pickup., kenwood kdc, laser pickup

I have a Kenwood KDC-105 that refuses to play cds-when inserted,it scans them for a bit,than read e-04. After a failed cleaning attempt(qtips and alcohol) I looked it up and found one culprit might be a failed laser pickup. Is it possible to fix this myself,and if so is there a walk through for it? I know basic wiring. If not,any idea on an estimate for the fix? Thanks

Hi Mike,

Unfortunately, a failed laser pickup is almost certainly the issue you're having, and the likelihood of being able to reasonably fix it is almost none.  Parts for these decks are not priced within reason, and it's often cheaper to replace it entirely.  Another KDC-105 can probably be had on ebay or craigslist for < $100.
