Car Stereos: Uninstall 2009 Silverado radio, factory radio, chevy silverado

Question
How do you unisntall the factory radio in a 2009 chevy silverado crew cab.  The radio has xm satelite radio.  Is the xm receiver built-in to the radio or is it separate unit that can be plugged into the replacement radio?

Answer
Hi Bob,

For the radio removal in your Silverado, take a look at the document I linked below.  This is the instruction manual for a radio mounting kit made for your vehicle, and it includes illustrated instructions for removing the factory radio.

The XM radio receiver will be a separate unit in the truck.  Unfortunately I don't know the location of the XM tuner in your vehicle; on earlier models it was mounted behind the glove box, but that may have changed with the release of the 2007+ Silverado.  The OEM XM tuner won't be compatible with an after-market head unit; only with a factory radio.  If you buy an after-market deck for your Silverado, and want keep the XM radio, you'll need to buy an after-market XM tuner made for use with the new head unit.  Depending on the OEM tuner location, it might be possible to  use the existing XM antenna, however.

Hope this helps!
