Car Stereos: Subwoofer amp, watt illumination, subwoofer amp

Question
Would this amp, Pyle PLA2200 2-Channel 1400-Watt Bridgeable Mosfet Amplifie be ok for this subwoofer ,Dual BP1204 12-Inch 1100-Watt Illumination Bandpass Subwoofer. If not what would you recommend?

Thanks,
George Gessler

Answer
Hi George,

With a Pyle amp, it can be hard to find the actual power output.  Pyle is well-known for wildly inflated "peak" power ratings and well-hidden RMS power ratings; unfortunately, it's the RMS power that's most important.  On digging through the owner's manual, it looks to me like the amp would be a fairly good match for the Dual subwoofer system.

My suggestion would be a Dual XiA3145 amplifier.  This is another amp that can be found at a relatively low price, but I'm more inclined to trust the power rating on the Dual amp vs. the Pyle.  (I'm not really a fan of Dual, particularly of their head units; but I think their amplifiers and subs are actually a pretty good value).  The XiA3145 amplifier in bridged mode should be a perfect match for the BP1204 sub box, and it includes an "Illuminite" power terminal that's made specifically to work with the LED lighting built into the sub box.

Hope this helps!
