Car Stereos: 2001 lincoln ls amp and sub, rca cables, line output converter

Question
Hey there i have a 2001 Lincoln LS and i was wondering if there was any way to hook up my amp and sub without replacing the deck? The stereo sounds great just want to get my umph!!! back thank you!

Answer
Hi Steve,

You can add an amp and sub to just about any stock car audio system using a device called a line output converter.  This connects to the factory speaker wiring and converts the audio signal to a low-level output that can be connected to your amplifier using RCA cables.  You can still keep the stock speakers connected when adding a line output converter.

Your LS may or may not be equipped with a factory subwoofer amplifier under the rear deck.  If it's present, then the easiest and best place to connect the line output converter is to the factory subwoofer wiring coming from the stock amp.  You can disconnect the stock subwoofer, or leave it connected.

If you don't have the stock sub and amp, then you'll need to connect to the rear door speaker wires.  The easiest place to find these would be at the back of the stock radio.

Hope this helps!
