Car Stereos: How do i hook up this system?, honda civic coupe, watts rms

Question
QUESTION: Hey Scott,
I am putting in a new audio system in my '98 Honda civic coupe, I've got an Alpine CDA-105 head unit, Alpine SPR-17s 6.5 component system, an Alpine SPR-69c 6x9s, and a 12 inch JL Audio W3 sub, what would be the best way to hook up an amp to this? and is my head unit powerful enough to power my speakers?
I have two amps, a punch P325.1 and a crunch 1400.4
I obtained these before i knew how i would hook it all up, not very smart, but could you please help me?

Thanks a lot!

ANSWER: Max, I would hook the speakers up to the radio directly.  Then, I would use one of the amps to power the subwoofer.  It may need to be adjusted a little, because a sub usually only needs about twice the power of the high/mids.  That way should have plenty of power for you.  Hope this helps, Scott

QUESTION: Will my speakers be underpowered?
my 6x9 takes 100 watts rms
and my component system takes 110 watts rms
but my head unit only puts out 50 watts per channel. . .

thanks so much for your help!

Answer
Max,  The RMS power rating on the speakers is just a max RMS rating.  That means you can only put that much RMS watts through the speakers.  If you try and put more than 100 watts RMS through your 6x9s, you run the risk of blowing them up.  However, you can run any power less than that, and they will sound fine.  As long as the power supply, such as radio or amplifier, has the same or less RMS watts than the speakers or subs, then the system will work fine.  If the power supply has more power than what the speakers or sub are rated at, you run the risk of blowing the speakers.  Keep trying, Scott
