Car Stereos: amp shuts off., watts rms, channel amp

Question
Yesterday I bought a Performance Tekniques 1200 watt 2 channel amp to power my 2 10inch fosgate P1s. Well after they installed it, it kept shutting off. They hooked it up normal with 1 sub per channel. They said the subs couldnt handle the power. That seems crazy because its only 125 watts RMS @ 4ohms. I know my ground is good, and I have 4awg wires with a cap. Can i hook up my subs in series with this amp? What can I do to stop it from shutting off.

Answer
Hi Mike,

It's rare you'd ever want to wire subwoofers in series.

Your best bet is to leave them as they are on two separate circuits.

If the amp is designed to handle it, you could also wire the subs in parallel, but that'd be up to the specs of the amplifier to tell you if that's do-able or not.
