Car Stereos: Adding and Aux plug, auxiliary input adapter, factory antenna

Question
I have a 02 Rendezvous with factory radio w/XM.  I want to be able to use my MP3 player but there's no existing connection.  Is there an adapter that i can use?

Answer
Hi Gus,

There are several different auxiliary input adapters that should work with your vehicle.  I'd suggest Peripheral Electronics' PXGM24, or PAC's AAI-GM24 (this is the same device, marketed by both companies, which have recently merged).

Another option is a hard-wired FM modulator, which allows you to listen to your portable device by turning in the signal on an FM radio frequency.  A hard-wired version makes a direct connection to the antenna plug at the back of the radio, which makes it much more effective than a wireless FM transmitter.  An FM modulator should cost a bit less than the direct Auxiliary input adapter listed above; but not much less, especially since you'd also need to buy a pair of antenna adapters to make the connection to your factory antenna plug.

Hope this helps!
