Car Stereos: monsoon sound system, jetta 1, rca cables

Question
Hey Brian
I was wondering how i can add an amp and a 12'' sub to the stock sound system on a jetta 1.8 t. Is there a way i can just run a few wires without changing the head unit? thanks
George P.

Answer
Hi George,

I can give you more information if you tell me the model year of your Jetta.  However, you should be able to install an after-market amplifier and subwoofer pretty easily, using a line-output converter (LOC).  The LOC connects to the factory speaker wiring and converts it to a low-level signal, which can be sent to the amplifier through RCA cables.  You should have fairly easy access to the factory speaker wiring at the Monsoon amplifier, located under the rear deck in the trunk.

If you can follow up with the model year of your Jetta, I can try to find the speaker wire colors you'll need to look for at the amplifier.

Hope this helps!

Brian
